Avalanche Advisory
Advisory: Moab Area Mountains Issued by Eric Trenbeath for Tuesday - December 3, 2013 - 7:40am
special avalanche bulletin

Utah Avalanche Center/Moab is gearing up for the 2013-14 season and we will begin issuing regular advisories this weekend. A winter storm is currently on our doorstep bringing with it an increase in winds, cold temperatures and a decent shot at some snow. Winds will be on the increase Tuesday averaging 20-30 mph from the SW gusting to 45. By Wednesday, the winds will back off and shift to the NW. Snow should begin to fall on Tuesday with 1-3" possible, with the best shot coming Tuesday night where we could see 6-10". Showers should linger through Wednesday. Expect the avalanche hazard to rise with these conditions so be alert to signs of instability and look for recent deposits of wind drifted snow. In addition, lingering instability exists on upper elevation northerly aspects due to the presence of buried depth hoar that has been developing since early season. The additional load from this storm will add stress to these buried deeper layers..
