Franklin Basin Beacon Park - Google Map Pin
This public beacon training park is a hands-on practice area where you can improve your avalanche rescue skills before heading into the backcountry. It is open for anyone to use and we encourage new and experienced users to take advantage of this free resource. The beacon park lets you search for buried beacons using your transceiver and when you successfully probe the target, the control box beeps for confirmation. Please do not use your shovel to try and dig out the buried transceivers. To use it, turn on your transceiver to search mode, follow the signal to the target, and probe until you hear the beep. You can practice single or multiple beacon searches, and even team up with friends for more realistic rescue drills. It’s an easy way to get faster and more confident with your gear—because in a real avalanche, every second counts. Please remember to close the control box when you are done to prevent damage to the equipment.
This park was made possible by a Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant as well as local sponsorship from Northstar of Logan.
