Watch for wet snow avalanches today in steep, rocky and exposed terrain across the range. Don't forget to carry rescue gear, travel one at a time through avalanche terrain, and pay attention to any red flags suggesting that the snowpack is becoming active.

We've stopped issuing daily forecasts for the season, but will continue sharing snow observations, avalanche information, and condition updates.

With all that in mind, remember wherever you're headed across the range watch out for rocks and stump hiding under 1-2' of snow and just waiting for some love from us!

A natural avalanche that occurred on Haystack during Saturday's warm-up.

Today, wet snow avalanches will be possible during the peak heat of the day on mid to upper elevations slopes around the compass. Remember, taking a ride in any slide today could have a nasty outcome. When I am dealing with wet snow issues I am always keeping in mind the following:

  • Avoid big terrain during the heat of the day and keep out from and under large avalanche paths and runout zones
  • Watch for the pack to become punchy and unsupportable under your ride, rig or board throughout the day
  • Cornices are just big triggers for avalanches -- watch out if they start peeling off the ridgelines today
  • Finally, if it feels like the snowpack is coming unglued and you see pinwheels, rollerballs and loose rock starting to come down at you from above, it is a sure sign the mountain is feeling the heat and it's time to back off
