Course format
- Self-paced AAI online learning module (must be finished before the field days)
- 2-hour live virtual seminar the evening before field day one
- Two 8-hour field days in the backcountry (approx. 7:30am-3:30pm)
- 24 hours of total curriculum

- Avalanche terrain recognition
- Snowpack assessment
- Companion rescue
- Backcountry decision-making using the AAI Backcountry Avalanche Checklist
Instructors and ratio
- AMGA-certified guides (Ski Guide through IFMGA Mountain Guide)
- All hold Avalanche Pro 2 and WFR certifications
- 2-4 students per guide
Location
- Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon, chosen the morning of based on the UAC forecast

- Beacon, shovel, probe, and pack available if needed
