AIARE Level 1 Refresher is an 8-hour course that revisits the AIARE Decision-Making Framework through hands-on field practice. You'll plan and lead a backcountry tour while assessing snowpack, applying safe travel techniques, and making decisions in real-world terrain.
Snowbird Mountain Guides' avalanche courses follow the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) Curriculum, as standardized by the American Avalanche Association. All courses are led by AIARE-certified instructors with AMGA training or certification in the ski discipline.

Prerequisites
AIARE 1 is a required prerequisite (or another A3 approved Level 1 Course). Students must be able to travel in backcountry terrain and have an advanced-intermediate level of downhill skiing or snowboarding in off-piste conditions.
Equipment
Touring backpack, transceiver, shovel, probe (Mammut demo included if needed), ski poles, skis/splitboard with uphill capability, climbing skins cut and fitted. Snowshoes can be used in place of skis/splitboard
