AIARE Level 2 is a 3-day advanced avalanche course designed for backcountry travelers ready to hone their decision-making skills in more complex terrain. Building on the AIARE Risk Management Framework introduced in AIARE 1, this course prepares you to take on a leadership role within a small group, navigate complicated terrain and create routes for traveling in the backcountry. You’ll learn to make your own snowpack interpretations through snowpit observations and stability tests while expanding your understanding of the snowpack's formation.
To maximize learning, AIARE 2 group sizes are kept small: field groups are capped at 4 students per instructor, with a maximum of 8 students and 2 instructors per course.
Snowbird Mountain Guides' avalanche courses follow the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) Curriculum, as standardized by the American Avalanche Association. All courses are led by AIARE-certified instructors with AMGA training or certification in the ski discipline.

Prerequisites
AIARE 1 and Avalanche Rescue Course are required prerequisites. At least one season of touring after your Level 1 is recommended. Students must be able to travel in backcountry terrain and have an advanced-intermediate level of downhill skiing or snowboarding in off-piste conditions.
Equipment
Touring backpack, transceiver, shovel, probe (Mammut demo included if needed), ski poles, skis/splitboard with uphill capability, climbing skins cut and fitted.
