Comments

Observed two small Wet Loose Avalanches today that appeared to occur in the mid morning hours. The first appeared to have released in the steep lower choke section of the Tuscarora Main Chute/Seagull. It may have been triggered by a natural wind slab release from above. Visibility was very limited. Of Note it appeared there was some rock fall in the debris. No pictures due to the thick cloud cover and low obscuring clouds. The other Wet Loose slide was observed in the Steel Line Run of the Lower Mary Chutes. Again a small natural release that appeared to initiate in the steep cliff band above the main line of the run. This one ran 120' and fanned out 60'. Very poor light again, so no pictures.

Ski conditions deteriorated dramatically today with the intense unseasonably warm temperatures. Over night low at 8000' was 44 with 9600' over night lows hovering around 40 degrees. The thick cloud cover combined with these warm temperatures worked to dampen the snow surface to at least 9800'. The riding and skinning got so sticky that traveling further was torturous. No rain observed today, but brief/sporadic periods of S-1 snowfall occurred in the mid afternoon hours. Supportable/surfy wet riding was ok from 9600' down to 9300' when the grabby/sticky snow returned. Basically it was slush/totally saturated surface snow down at least 4 to 6 inches from 9300 down to 8700'.
