Evidence of a snowmobiler catch and carry was found in Humpy Creek, with tracks both above and below debris. This avalanche, judging by the appearance of the party's tracks throughout the drainage, likely happened on Sunday, one week ago (20251207). Additionally, there was a flat, stomped-out area where a machine or person was likely recovered. There were not, however, any marks from a shovel, making a catch and carry, but not a burial the most likely outcome of this mystery avalanche. A snow profile was dug on an adjacent slope, where poor structure and reactive ECT's can still be found despite the elapsed time between this avalanche and today. Additionally, a layer of preserved buried surface hoar was also present in the snow profile, atop old November snow.
As an aside, this avalanche was triggered far enough down Humpy Creek to be on public land, and any individuals involved need not avoid sharing information about this near miss for fear of trespassing issues.
