Comments
Went out to ski the Emmas and maybe something along the north of the ridge. We went over to Oingo Boingo and took a look at the snow structure under the cornice at the top and found about 20" of new snow on top of the pre-storm bed layer without any notable wind loading. Winds had been from W and NW leading up to this, snow had begun to pick up again. Around 6:58 PM, I decided it would be worth dropping in with a careful ski cut and went about 30 ft out high on the slope under the cornice and the slope fractured across the width of the chute and slid out below. Though the slab was soft, it propagated to the sides of the chute and ran down the middle at moderate speed, entraining snow the whole way down, until coming to a stop about 300ft below the cut. We skied the bed surface afterwards with no issues. Crown was about 20", length 300ft, width 130ft.
