Rounded a corner on the trail that developed a small cornice from winds during the recent storm. Kicked it a few times and locally it cracked but no movement. Partner came up and jumped on it causing both the local area and about 40 feet to our left around a bend to break free. The cornice then fell onto the slope below which then failed on a slick bed surface and cleared out the slope underneath. Hard to tell how much of the area underneath the cornice was a slab (vs loose snow pushed down by the cornice), but it seemed like at least some.
Suspect the slick bed surface was developed either from a warm period during this recent storm or from significant warming this past weekend. Partner rode on top of it for about 5 feet downhill but then came to a stop as the rest of the avalanche slid below him. We noticed this slick bed surface consistently up to 7200 ft, at which point wind scouring took over making it hard to tell. Tested a few more slopes and were able to get some new snow sluffs to slide about 10 feet before stopping, but didn't find any other instances of propagation.
