Walking up through Neff's it was apparent that the north facing terrain in this area underwent an extensive avalanche cycle during this last storm. Almost every path from the rideline on the south side of Neffs Canyon seemed to have avalanched. I would suspect that they broke within the new snow. A dust layer was present in this area and I did not see any sign of it on bed surfaces or in debris, that being said the avalanches had been somewhat filled in so hard to say. Most crowns looked to be about 1' deep D1-2.5. Even smaller paths in the trees ran in places I would not have expected.
potentially on top of a graupel layer.
These avalanches had started zones ranging from 8600'-9200' on NW-N-NE aspects. Looking on a map after, all start zones appeared to be over 35 degrees.
We noted one avalanche that looked to be skier triggered around 7500' (second to last photo).
In our snowpit we found no signs of instability with an average snow depth of 180cm at 8000'. The most recent dust layer was not accompanied by a crust in this location. Above the dust layer was about 10cm of graupel. (last photo)
