Comments
A break in the storm lead to clear skies and a rapidly warming snowpack at low elevations. The morning great powder was very dense by 2pm.
This is a regular avalanche location. This appeared to be wind drifted new snow. There were cracks ~10' back from the crown. I was unable to access the bed surface to look at the weak layer, but would assume it the new snow/old snow interface at the crown which then stepped down to the ground most likely on old faceted snow.
Photo 1: view of full slide with cracks above the crown visible as well as the ground in the middle of the bed surface.
Photo 2: view from right side with cracks above the crown visible.
Photo 3: view from left side.
