Comments
We saw some naturally releasing wet loose slides on W / WNW facing aspects late afternoon/early evening on Friday. Dimensions are estimations from a distance. Skinning up Norths Fork and Memorial Chutes, we encountered many types of wind affected snow--crusts of varying thickness, pockets of soft snow, and some small drifts. I dug a hasty pit in a small pocket of a slab that failed as I cut the top of the pit with my pole. It appeared to be 5-10 cm of wind slab on top of what I presume was approximately 30 cm of recent new snowfall. The failure was on a layer of somewhat sparse graupel (see photo).
