Comments
New snow as well as significant amounts of wind loading overloaded the entire NW Bowl of Provo Peak. Crown encompassed the entire bowl. The avalanche had two distinct debris types and depositions. The main debris pile buried approx 300m-400m of the Kyhv Peak Road and ran up hill on the the west face of Lions Head. This debris was a fast moving dry debris flow which stripped all trees and vegetation in its path to the ground. (Highly destructive). The other debris flow was a slower moving wet debris flow which traveled down through the deep gully and deposited 20' deep by 100' wide onto the Kyhv Peak Road just north of the main debris pile.
