Comments
While traversing onto a slope to avoid cliffs I struck a rock and in doing so pushed several inches of snow under my ski down with force. The snow quickly consolidated and began moving downhill. As the snow moved over a small rollover, it entrained a roughly 30' wide path of snow and continued downhill for roughly 500'
another, similar avalanche was triggered while exiting the slope to safer terrain.
this occurred at roughly 1pm Saturday while descending from the west ridge line of Red Baldy. No obvious red flags were observed prior to this avalanche and we did not observe any additional avalanche activity on our ascent out via Silver west to Red Top. We were skiing south aspect slopes to avoid the considerable hazard on northerly aspects including several large slides observed on our ascent to the top of white pine
The attached picture is taken from the bottom of the path and shows half of the total path.
