hard slab failed on early season facets at the ground
Comments
Large D2.5 R3 avalanche ran 900-1000 vertical feet & 1500 ft in length. Appeared to start in shallower snow pack around rocky zone and failed on ground layer facets. Deepest part of the runout was 275 cm vs surrounding snowpack of 120-130cm
no tracks at start zone, but debris filed did cover snowmobile tracks. The slide looks to have happened yesterday 1/25/24 as there was 1" of snow over tracks that crossed the debris.
we searched debris field for ~15 minutes and found no signals, thankfully, so assume this was just a natural slide.
