Comments
Went up little superior this afternoon as a group of three with the intention of skiing the s facing ridge/fin off the summit. The only instabilities noted on the ascent were some small wind slabs off the superior ridgeline and long running sluffs from cornice fall triggered by earlier travelers.
About 500 feet into my descent rocky conditions forced me off the fin proper onto its more east facing flank. Here I triggered a soft slab in a section of rocks covered by the new snow. The rocks took the liberty of removing my skis for the slide to whisk away. I remained at the crown of the avalanche on the bed surface. The slab ran on the facets located at the old/new snow interface.
