Comments
After a couple of laps on lower angle slopes off the ridge we decided to try a steeper line. Recognizing the sloughing potential we began the run by two ski cuts on the ridge before dropping in. First cut didn’t yield any movement. Second cut was where the slope rolled over onto the steeper face and the slough moved as anticipated, but also propagated into a soft slab within the new storm snow. Seeing the snow start to crack and move slightly above me and not just below, I traversed out of the line to a patch of trees mid slope skiers left and was surprised to see the snow flush all the way to the flats. After the snow stopped moving I rode to the bottom of the line, followed by my touring partners, and no other snow moved, leaving plenty of potential for more movement adjacent to the small slab we touched off. We decided to remain on lower angle slopes for the rest of the day.
