Comments
My partner (snowboarder) and I (skier) reached the top of Scotties Bowl. We saw another skier triggered avalanche near the top, about 30 feet wide and about 100 feet long. When we reached our line, we decided to do a cut on the slope. My friend went first on his snowboard, and triggered an avalanche about twice as wide and twice as long as the one we had just seen. Only the new snow slid, it did not break off from deep layers. The avalanche did not spread farther than his snowboard, and we did not see any shooting cracks. The bed surface was pretty icy, but there were a couple soft spots here and there. As we worked our way down the upper chute, there was large sluff with every turn. But when we got into the lower part of the bowl, the snow stayed put. We both made it back to the White Pine parking lot safely.
