Comments
I was scoping the Wellsvilles from our house this morning and noticed some natural activity on the Wellsvilles from yesterday's storm. Lots of loose dry sluffs in steep terrain but the interesting slides were two medium sized soft slabs on north facing slopes in Shumway and Pine Canyons. Both slabs were on north facing slopes starting around 8500 feet. The slabs were far away from the ridgelines and were in sheltered, cold, north facing terrain.
The first picture shows the loose sluffs off of the East face of the Wellsville Cone in the sun and the soft slab activity in the shadows of Shumway canyon (400 feet wide).
The second picture is a little closer view of the same area.
The third picture is in upper Pine Canyon (south fork) (2-300 feet wide)
Teh only othe slab activity I could see across the range was a small 50 foot wide pocet lower in Shumway canyon.
