Comments
Reported via text message. Actually reporting two avalanches in the same general area, both on steep rocky slopes and failed on PWL. Small one appeared to be skier triggered 2' x 20', the larger perhaps remotely triggered from a nearby uptrack.
I went up to the site on 12/19. Sure enough, the avalanche had failed on a buried persistent weak layer of sugary faceted snow above the Nov.12 rain/rime-crust.
Comments
A skin-track went along the ridge above the avalanche and then to the west and towards pt. 9248. I could see that the slope just below the uptrack and to the west had collapsed and cracked extensively but had not avalanched because of a lower slope angle. Cracks were visible across the slope, hundreds of feet away from the avalanche.
