Comments
Because of the HIGH danger in the backcountry, I decided just stay away completely from avalanche terrain today. I took the dog for a walk down by the Little Bear River. Despite clouds obscuring views of most of the high country in the Wellsville Mountains, I could see evidence of a few large natural avalanches that occurred overnight or early this morning and descended from the heights down into lower elevations. One avalanche that stood out from a distance was in Old Logway Canyon, and the very large avalanche appears to have run the full length of the path, around 2500 vrt', slamming the flats of Maple Bench at about 6000' in elevation.
