Comments
We found a nice little test slope on the way up the Tony Grove Road. Initially, a rider triggered shooting cracks side-hilling a small slope. Cracking indicates unstable snow, and the rider intentionally triggered a small avalanche in the next test slope up the road. This soft slab avalanche on a petty small slope was manageable, but it indicates potential for much larger and less manageable avalanches on bigger and higher elevation slopes. The avalanche failed on large grained facets that resemble loose rock salt and are quickly growing into the depth hoar category
