Comments
Top 800' of run was shallow but dry snow with the more southern facing side of the ridge being slight sun crusted. No red flags. When I dropped to the west off the crest of the ridge to get around a rockband, the snow immediately got really wet and big pinwheels fell below me. I skied back underneath the rock band and made one test turn, and a small pocket pulled out about 8" deep and 20' wide with the crown right under my feet. Within seconds the whole slope about 60' below where I was joined in and started to slide.
Lucky to be ok. Skied down the avy path and back to the car afterwards without any trouble.
