Comments
I triggered a small slab avalanche in steep terrain in upper Neff's canyon. I was skiing very conservatively and on the lowest angle side of the chute and must have skied just on the edge of the pocket (see photo). This was a bit of a spooky event, as the slide was triggered slightly above me, probably 10 feet. It simply moved past me without incident. None the less, I was caught off-guard.
Without doing any real investigation, I'm sure this was a soft wind slab from down slope winds as there was a slight convexity at that section of the chute.
This is probably not that interesting of a slide but with all the ski activity and close calls lately, it's worth keeping things like this in mind.
