At the very top of Scotties Bowl proper in LCC I ski cut under the very large cornice that develops above the main chute with no results. Things felt and looked ok. I've skied this line before and new how steep it got and that it normally has a cliff right before the main bowl but the cliff was completely filled in. I took a few more cautious turns in the chute and it all spidered around and above me. Not good. I took one more turn to be uphill of a nice little pine tree that I grabbed and held on as the slab pulled on me and eventually slid on past. Phew. It ran another 200 feet down into the top of the main bowl. Didnt see anyone else around thankfully. Quick beacon check confirmed nobody else around. 2 feet to about 6 inch crown from one side of the steep chute to the other. Seemed to fail on a hard icy layer from several days ago.
