Comments
While skiing a steep east facing slope (about 38 degrees) at 8000 ft, an avalanche broke loose slightly in front of my skis. I was able to avoid getting caught by "pointing my skis" and outrunning the slide then skiing off to the side of the avalanche. The avalanche was approximately 40 feet wide, 1 foot deep and run for about 400 vertical feet. The slide consisted of storm snow and likely failed at the new snow/old snow interface. See video URL.
