Comments
We skinned up Pink Pine Ridge following the obvious path that ends where the rock headwall begins. This is where most skiers stop hiking. There is an opening some 50 feet wide on steep terrain (with no trees) facing east right under the first rocks of the ridge. (I skied this slope 2 days before the storm). We cut the slope starting from the rocks skiing towards the trees. The cut triggered a slide of new snow at least 14 inches deep that went all the way to the bottom, to the bowl below. It was exactly what we thought would happen but it also exposed some rocks that I hadnĀ“t seen the previous day. There was no slab failure, but the slide took all the snow accumulated through the last 2 storms and it would have rendered a good punch to a skier located half way up the slope.
