Heights from ground surface
0-5" facets - October snow, 1mm or so
5" - 10" gruapel - bb to pea size.
10" to 28" storm snow, slight inversion in upper 4" or so.
Tests at crown:
4 ECTs, 3 failed upon isolation,
1- ECTP1
All failed at facet graupel interface. Left about 2-3' of debris on upper side of the cattrack. Numerous en-echelon in slope adjacent to slide, cracks were down to facets/graupel
Directly above cat track leading to lift. Cat track was packed and had seen a lot of traffic both skiers/riders and snow cats. I stopped to look at a snow pit dug earlier that was about 5' above the packed trail. I stuck my pole in the snow about a foot above the pit to isolate a column and remotely triggered the slide 100' away. cracks ran from the pit to the slide. It also may be possible but not very likely that it was triggered from folks walking on the ridge top 300' vertical above.
Pit was dug by Evelyn Lees approximately 20 minutes earlier. I guess I found the "sweet spot"
