Route Description

Superior Arguably the crown jewel of upper LCC.  Drive 7.8 miles beyond the electronic signage at the mouth of the canyon, beyond the lower Alta parking lot and park off the road just beyond the Deep Powder House and the Alta Lodge.  Ascend the trail between the Our Lady of the Snows and the Alta town offices to gain the summer road beneathFlagstaff.  Work west under the Toledo avalanche path to follow the power lines to the pass.  Stay on the Cottonwoodridgeline as much as possible to avoid the looming avalanche terrain on either side.  It may be advisable to remove snowshoes/skis/boards for some of the more technical sections.  Amazing views, including looking down one of the most impressive avalanche paths threatening the road.    Two miles and 2500’.  Dogs are not allowed in the watershed of LCC.
