Flagstaff: Drive 7.8 miles beyond the electronic signage at the mouth of the canyon, beyond the lower Alta parking lot and park off the road just beyond the Deep Powder House and the Alta Lodge. Ascend the trail between the Our Lady of the Snows and the Alta town offices to gain the summer road beneath Flagstaff. Work up the steep slope to gain the ridgeline. Ascend to the main Cottonwood ridgeline, avoiding the avalanche terrain to the east and the west. This ridgeline is the site of many accidents and near misses over the years. One mile and 1700’ gain brings one to the sub-peak of Flagstaff. Dogs are not allowed in the watershed of LCC.
