Snow Characteristics Comments

Snow depths variable in this zone and I believe less depth than other Ogden areas. At North Ogden Divide there is only about 6 inches, at 7000: 17 inches and at 7700: 29 inches. There is decent fast settled powder making for good turning on low angle slopes but the exit is very character building!

Problem #1 Comments

Evidence of cornice loading and failure from a couple of days ago. No real new wind transport today.

Comments

Photos show recent cornice failures that appear to be since the recent snow but a couple of days ago. These failures were on a 32 degree NE slope at the head of Bridge Canyon. I could not get anything else to move today. I dug a pit at 7900 ft. and the HS is 74cm (29 inches) with 40cm (16 inches) of dry snow setting on the super stiff 4 inch thick (hard to get a shovel through it) supportable ice crust. Well bonded with the new snow without signs of failure.
