Comments
Broads Fork has an overall shallow snowpack up to about 9,000 feet, which was our high point today. From the S-Curves (~6,000’) to the first bridge crossing (~7,500’), there is less than 10 inches of snow sitting directly on dirt. Above this elevation, the Christmas Eve Rain Crust (CERC) becomes widespread.
We dug our snowpit at 8,500 feet, where the total snow depth was only around two feet (see pic).
A heads-up if you’re planning a trip into Broads Fork: we had to walk roughly two miles out from where we stopped skiing. The summer road is mostly bare with very little snow coverage and a lot of exposed rocks.
