Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
Persistent Weak Layer
Trend
Increasing Danger
Problem #1 Comments
rain and m/f crust mid snowpack and at ground continue to show a strong bond within snowpack at this location and elevation (9400, E, 29• slope), despite looking super suspect… But incoming storm will likely be tipping point. Storm snow also had some layers in upper snow pack fracturing at ECT 16 but no propagation.
Avalanche Problem #2
Problem
Wet Snow
Trend

Problem #2 Comments
potential for wet slough with daytime heating

Comments
New storm came in upside down ranging from 8-12” in Ant Knolls area. Overall pack was 70-90 cm in the 8500- 10k range ECT only showed small fracture in storm snow about 6-8” into the pack, but PWL remained stable (for now). However, we did note the crust layers were noticeably weaker in just the past few days, further adding doubt to my ECT results. Ground Level pwl also remains a concern esp in more shallow and or rocky areas. We will likely see avalanche activity increase significantly with incoming storm and additional loading.
