We did not get our heads in the snow to look, but based on the booming collapse we had on the descent I'd say this problem is still very much there.
Comments
Late start great start for us today. Headed up towards Scott's Backdoor from the Guardsmans TH. OVC skies with occasional bursts of sun shining through. PI rates of S-1 during our tour. HS ranged from 40cm-90cm, pretty shallow up high in the wind. Winds were C gusting L from the West down low and M with a couple S gusts from the SW on the ridge line around 9800'. We did experience a massive collapse on a WNW facing slope at 9700'. It was loud and settled a very large area. The slope angle was about 20 degrees. Skiing/riding was better than expected. We found the sweet spot!
