Went up Cardiff Fork to the lower rock slabs below Cardiiac Ridge and then over to Ivory Flakes. The wind was blowing and transporting snow on the high peak and ridges onto northerly facing slopes, down at mid elevations the snow was to dense or wet to move. We did not see any natural activity but the set up is certainly there. In my opinion the dense slab sitting on top of weak snow would’ve required a trigger today, like a skier. The slab is super dense and boot penetration on skis is only a few inches, but when you step out of your skis you drop through to the weak faceted snow below. We’re still dealing with a dangerous set up in the high, wind loaded, polar terrain. Seemed like the whole snowpack is saturated at the lower elevation. 9500ft is pretty high for damp snow in our neck of the woods, especially on the winter solstice. Skiing is alright up high but it’s most likely gonna get wind hammered if the wind continues to blow.
