Snow Characteristics Comments

The road to access Snake Creek is nearly entirely covered in snow from the base parking area, except for a ~50-foot stretch of dirt at the beginning of the road. Snow depths range from 1 to 2 feet above 8500 feet. Despite the snowpack being mostly facets, it provides enough support to keep you off the ground. It's enough to move around gingerly off-trail once you get up high.

Problem #1 Comments

The good news is that most north and east-facing slopes above ~9000' in this area slid during the December 6-7 cycle, removing the cohesive slab and eliminating the immediate hazard. The bad news: the remaining snow continues to facet, and these slopes will become concerning again once new snow and wind build a fresh slab over this weakening base.
