We started the day skinning up Emmas 3ish and were met with the absolute most brutal skin track. After taking an ungodly long time to skin up it, we made it up to the top of west bowl and descended down between quick silver and hideaway park. The photo above is a 30cmx30cm(ish) hand shear done on a North facing slope at 9550ft. The block was roughly 12 inches deep, very easy to pull, and Q1 quality with lots of weak facets at the bed surface on the ground. We walked up to upper days and rode a piece of terrain that was SE facing and it skied very well. Good corn cycle had formed with stable and supportive base underneath. On our way up to upper days, we spotted lots of small slides that had broken off between Fang and Oingo Boingo with 2 obvious propagations that occurred on the top lookers left of Fang right at the crest of the line, the other occurred at the crest just to the lookers right of Fang. See images for more info. Some key notes here are that high elevation Northish slopes that stayed hidden in the trees did not see enough heat to saturate the buried weak layer. In this particular zone, we did see good saturation on the East facing slope we decided to ski. A hand shear test there led to no result. This is not a sure sign that the weak layer is not present on other East facing slopes. If you're going to ski something similar in the next few days. gather some of your own data! Thanks
