Pleasant spring weather for a midday early winter outing. Temps pushing 50F at the trailhead, partly to mostly cloudy but sun peaking through, light winds at low elevation, increasing to moderate at mid elevation.
Snow Characteristics
Snow Characteristics Comments

Where snow exists, the surface was wet, damp, moist or your favorite variation of that idea up to 8,000ft. Obstacles to avoid were abundant, whether rocks, bushed, mud, etc. However, we did hear credible rumors of some potentially still soft-ish snow in the higher northerlies, for those with the fortitude to seek it.

Comments

Snow height was zero at the trailhead, increasing to about 40cm at 8,000ft. This meant walking up the road for at least a few hundred yards, and likely farther still as the warm temps progress this week. We poked down into a ENE slope just shy of 8,000ft to find wet snow all the way to the ground, including the basal facets. There weren't any indications for wet avalanche activity yet, but surely it's coming soon.

Coverage on the Cutler zone in general (note plenty of green and brown at low elevation).

The trail into Refrigerator Canyon (aka the "death luge," a bit more apt at the moment).

Terrain above the LZ.

Low snow means it's possible to pay respects to Dead Tree.
