Snow Characteristics Comments

Exposed areas in the wind zone had variable depth and textures, ranging from sastrugi to hollow-sounding firm snow. Looking around Gold Basin, the wind seems to have moved some snow in the alpine this last week. Dominant wind redistribution appears to be from the SW to NE, but more recent wind has come more from the West and Northwest. Further down the slope, less wind affect. Lower elevations were starting to become moist. Gold Miners ski quality was pretty good, with about 7" of soft snow above a stout melt freeze crust, with some facets below this crust. Temps seemed warm enough that some southerly aspects will start to cook.
