A north facing slope at 9,600' that was previously windloaded and had roughly 65cm of snow, nearly two feet.

Overnight snow and wind have added a dense slab to our snowpack structure almost everywhere across the board. On northerly facing slopes, this sits atop weak sugar snow as depicted in the photo above, near the bottom of the snow pit. I saw and heard significant cracking and collapsing throughout my travels, breaking at the interfaces indicated by the crystal cards. Extended column tests yielded propagation in the easy range, between 1 and 10 taps from the wrist relaying how sensitive the snowpack is to this recent load.

Cracking and collapsing were evident even in protected terrain where strong winds continued to transport snow throughout the morning.

An in-your-face, red flag, is small roadcuts and banks like this one above, avalanching and cracking out.
