Snow Characteristics Comments

The snow is very elevation dependent with just patches of snow in the shady areas at 9,000' and the snow depth increases to about 4-8" up in Gold Hill Basin. The snow out there is mostly weak and faceted from the prolonged dry and cool fall. There is a melt freeze or rain crust seperating the very weak surface snow and the old early season snow at the ground.

Poor Snowpack Structure
Red Flags Comments
Not much structure or integrity to the early season snow pack and it will be interesting to see how the snowpack handles a decent winter storm when it does come.
Comments

Unfortunately, not quite sled season and wheeled vehicles are the ticket right now. The snow is spotty and is really only on the shady aspects and the snow is very sugary and does pack well right now.

Shallow snow conditions out there currently with mostly weak sugary faceted snow at the bottom and at the surface with a thin crust in the mid pack.

East and southeast facing Moffit Peak.

Double Hill.
