Comments
As mentioned in other observations, inconsistency and sun was the takehome message of the day. We kept it low angle and did some sunny slope skiing to avoid widespread crust. Upper elevations between 8-9000 feet were softened but grabby and we broke through into unconsolidated snow often. Below that elevation, it seems that the melt/refreeze action has penetrated deeper into the snowpack and the corn skiing was much better. Temps hit 50°F by 9am and at 10:45 at 7000 ft got to 70° F in the sun. We saw evidence of recent wet slide activity from the last day or two especially in cliffy areas around 7- 8,000 ft. We also noted pinwheels and rollerballs on all aspects at varying elevations. All in all, it was a great day for views and sunshine!
