Strong ridgeline winds gusting out of the S and W
Today's storm seems to have begun with a widespread graupel event in the mid and upper elevations. Flat and wind sheltered meadows between 9 and 10K had 2" of graupel- sometimes the size of popcorn kernels- by about noon; with 12"+ pooling on some lee slopes and beneath terrain features. The snow skied fast and silky, with sluffs traveling a long way even on low-angle terrain. I expect tomorrow's new-snow sluffs to be noteworthy if running on this buried graupel layer.
