Headed up the Bowman Trail in Millcreek Canyon today without a real plan. Got to the top of Toots To Boots and decided to keep heading up towards the Cabin Run on Gobblers, once we could see that it was tracked wall to wall we decided to ski into Alexander Basin via Depth Hoar Bowl a steep NE facing run that never sees the light of the sun this time of year. I knew it had avalanched because I was in the same area a few days ago but I wasn't sure to what extent. We had to drop a few overhanging cornices to access the main slope. There was one large 3 to 4 foot crown right off the ridgeline and then about 50 feet down in the main bowl there was another big crown where the avalanche stepped down to the ground interface. The debris ran full track removing a swath of pine trees on its way down. The debris had about a foot plus of light density snow on it and not sure of the timing but at least a week or so ago.
One thing I'd like to hear in observations is what is remaining in the bed surface, did it clean the PWL out or did it leave it there, in my opinion that's way more pertinent information than a crown profile. This avalanche removed the PWL and left a hard bed surface as well as some hard debris. Kinda looked like the bowl went wall to wall but not positive about that, the crown was easy to see on the skiers left where we were skiing. I did get some cracking on the ridgeline where the win had affected the snow but not down on the main slope. Photos: Old crown, debris and the clearing the slide left, cracking on the ridgeline
