Comments
Very touchy surface instabilities noted in travel. None stepped down into old snow but at low elevation and with a westerly component the HS is still rather shallow. No natural avalanches observed, but imagine the higher terrain and more exposed ridge lines would have been easily producing natural avalanches.
Did not experience any cracking, collapsing, etc. but the small test slopes just past the Greens Basin Trail were extremely easy to trigger and in the wrong terrain this setup could be highly consequential. This new storm snow may present more of a hazard as it consolidates into a more cohesive slab while also becoming harder to trigger.
Pockets ranged anywhere from 4-12" deep and were unconsolidated. Found at 7,600' on W-WNW facing slopes. No slab formations noted except off the top of the wind affected snow on Reed and Benson ridgeline.
Have fun and be safe.
