Comments
We began our tour from Spruces Campground and skinned to Greens Basin. The snow coverage was minimal through the first portion of Greens Basin/Days Fork. There was enough to skin, but there weren't many skiable options. We dug a test pit on a northerly facing aspect near the meadow located at 8500'. HS: 65cm. The first ~50cm was right side up - F to 4F hardness - with a crust at ~15cm. Below the crust is the faceted persistent weak layer that extends to the ground. The facets appear to be rounding facets at this pit location. ECTP17 with the failure initiating and propagating in the PWL.
We also observed surface hoar on multiple aspects and elevations throughout our tour.
