Comments
Toured up to Pinecone Ridge and the Scotts Backdoor area. I expected to be met with vicious winds but was pleasantly surprised to encounter light to moderate snow and 10-15mph winds even at the ridge top. Wines varied from northerly to easterly. Gusts maybe reached 20 mph. Snow fell the entirety of the tour from 3:30-6:30pm and accumulation was in the neighborhood of 2-3 inches. Very minor snow transport, even at the ridge line. South facing slopes rode very well and I only touched bottom a few times on the descent. Interestingly, the snow quality and depth was better near the ridge line. The lower part of the descent had less coverage and varying densities until I was in more sheltered terrain. North facing sheltered terrain was bottomless and skied beautifully.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions. No red flags other than new snow but even then, it seemed to be bonding well and sloughing was not a concern in steeper terrain. Winds were very well behaved and the extra 2-3 inches made riding that much more enjoyable.
