Snow Characteristics Comments
The snow was pretty damp below 7400', above that it was very heavy all the way up to 8700'. Conditions were spring storm like. I was unable to see any natural activity today, but that was mainly because the visibility was so poor. The new snow would easily shear at the interface with a little push and quickly entrain a lot more snow. Test slopes would run fairly fast for a wet slide and small debris piles set up like concrete. The new snow was sitting on a layer of soping wet slush causing glopping issues and icing of binding and ski edges as you got higher on the mountain. I also found some pockets on solar aspects around 7800' that were completely saturated and were unsupportable to the ground.
