Snow pit on W 8700' showed weak snow in upper half of pit with 50cm HS. 1230; Tair=+1degC; T20= -3degC Pit location was several hundred feet below ridge-line and may not be representative of more exposed near ridge-line areas. Observations at or near ridge-line of E, NE, NW areas >9000' showed extensive wind compacted snow.
Solar aspects had supportable melt-freeze crust. S-SW snow surfaces were moist. No signs of fresh wet loose activity on the day.
